Description
Maimonides Health seeks a full-time palliative medicine attending physician to provide comprehensive outpatient medical care and advance care planning for patients with serious illness at our established palliative medicine clinic. The clinic is co-located at Maimonides Cancer Center, Brooklyn’s first and largest fully-accredited Cancer Center founded in 2005.
JOB DESCRIPTION/FEATURES:
Clinical Responsibilities:
• Provide direct outpatient palliative medicine care Monday-Friday
• Comprehensively manage symptoms and facilitate goals of care discussions and advance care planning for patients with serious illnesses
• Manage an established patient panel while building relationships to expand referrals from internal colleagues and community providers
• Collaborate with oncologists and multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient care coordination
Growth & Development Opportunities:
• Potential for program development, including expanding outpatient palliative medicine services to non-cancer populations and starting a palliative medicine fellowship
Academic & Teaching Opportunities:
• Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows rotating through the palliative medicine service
• Prepare and deliver lectures to learners at all levels of training
• Participate in efforts to improve primary palliative care education throughout the health system
• Pursue academic projects and clinical research aligned with personal interests
• Opportunity for faculty appointment at SUNY Downstate
Service & Quality Improvement:
• Actively engage in service and quality improvement efforts within the division, department, and medical center
• Participate in interdisciplinary committees and initiatives
• Contribute to development of clinical protocols and best practices
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
• Graduate of an accredited medical school (MD/DO)
• Fellowship training in hospice and palliative medicine
• BE/BC in related field (internal medicine, pediatrics, family medicine, etc.) and BE/BC in hospice and palliative medicine. BE physicians are required to sit for and pass their boards at the earliest date possible.
• Unrestricted New York State medical license and valid DEA license
• ACLS/BLS certification
Preferred:
• Experience in outpatient palliative medicine practice
• Demonstrated interest in community outreach and program development
• Experience working with diverse patient populations

• Interest in working with a wide range of stakeholders and disciplines to improve primary palliative care and palliative care access
