About our Palliative Care Teams:
Our team consists of nearly 100 clinicians that work in interdisciplinary teams across 9 acute care hospitals, robust community-based program, and advance care planning program
Our interdisciplinary teams are comprised of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, RNs, social workers, clinical pharmacists, chaplains, and administrative roles

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Conducts initial Spiritual Care consult for new palliative referrals and implements appropriate Spiritual Care Plan or intervention based upon an assessment of patient’s spiritual /religious needs and/or resources.
2. Reassesses Spiritual Care Plan as needed.
3. Provides patient-centered theological, spiritual and religious care; including spiritual and emotional support and guidance for patients, families, caregivers and staff.
4. Provides bedside spiritual or religious rituals and services at EOL or as needed.
5. Provides crisis intervention and grief/bereavement support for patient, family, caregivers and staff.
6. Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings; provides contribution to GOC plan which address spiritual, religious, existential and cultural needs of patients and families.
7. Participates in patient/family conferences as a member of the team.
8. Performs a basic pain / symptom assessment and refer to MD/NP/PharmD; within the scope of professional capacity.
9. Participates in palliative care team rounds and case conferences (Palliative /AHF / Oncology) as appropriate.
10. Functions and relates as a Palliative Care team member and colleague; including good communication, attention to details; respect for others and their diversity; personal accountability in fulfilling commitments, collaborations and other requirements or responsibilities.
11. Participates in Palliative Care quality improvement and scholarly projects as spiritual care expert as indicated.
12. Participates in faculty and staff meetings.
13. Educates staff and volunteers through in-services, speaking, writing, and/or research.
14. Provides spiritual care education to Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellows, rotating physicians, nursing, pharmacy, social work trainees, and CPE Interns/Residents.
15. Co-facilitates designated support / educational /in-service groups; staff debriefing, Fellow/Resident education.
16. Participates on designated institutional committees if appropriate.
17. Participates in professional development (such as Center to Advance Palliative Care modules, APC conferences, MedStar Palliative Care Lunch Bunch, etc). Also, participates regularly in didactics or system-wide learning initiatives as applicable/available.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Education Level Field of Study Required/

Master’s degree A Master's degree in Divinity, Theology or completion of seminary training is required; however, a combination of education and related experience may also be considered. Required
Clinical Pastoral Education 4 Units of Clinical Pastoral Education from an ACPE accredited center. Required
Work Experience

1-2 years Approximately one to two years of progressively more responsible job-related experience; more direct patient care experience is preferred. Required
Additional Experience Palliative focus in CPE training OR 1-year direct practice in palliative care OR hospice Preferred

PROBLEM SOLVING: Job requires a relatively high level of problem-solving to find solutions to difficult human, technical, clinical or administrative problems.
INTERNAL CONTACTS: Internal contacts necessary to effectively advise, consult or counsel others to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas or actions.
INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT: Work is occasionally performed according to existing procedures and instructions but often requires analysis of problems and development of solutions. This involves determining appropriate methods and task sequences.
Licenses/Certifications
Board Certification from National Board Certifications Organizations (i.e. APC, NAJC, NACC) Within 2 years of hire. Preferred
