As a next step in the growth and evolution of Supportive Care services within the UAB Health System, the Kirklin Clinic, the Center for Palliative and Supportive Care as well as the Cancer Service line, the responsibilities detailed below outline the primary role for an interim medical director to assist in the planning, oversight and operations of the Supportive Care Services program. This role would be included in the leadership structure of the Division of Gerontology, Geriatrics and Palliative Care funded through UAB Hospital and includes the following responsibilities:

1) Maintains clinical practice in Supportive Care clinic that may include in-person visits, telehealth and/or home visits as part of the community-based team. Practice would be at a minimum of .20 %clinical FTE with concordant wRVU expectations during this time period.
2) Works collaboratively with other MD and APP providers to oversee the scheduling of clinic, address patient access issues, and the approval process for closing clinics
3) Supports TKC ambulatory and hospital leadership in maintaining the support and growth of these services.
4) Supports strategic growth and programming of Supportive Care services that includes all the various providers including clinical care by MD’s and NP’s, psychology and counseling, Interventional pain, and all other interdisciplinary team members such as nutrition, physical therapy, massage.
5) Assists with tracking of quality and other metrics of success in conjunction with ambulatory leadership and provides feedback to other providers and team members.
6) Collaborates with Center for Palliative and Supportive Care Steering team leadership and Divisional leadership as appropriate to recruit a long-term medical director.
7) Collaborates with ambulatory leaders and team members on appropriate policies and procedures pertinent to Supportive Care including patient triage, opioid prescribing, and tapering, etc.
8) Leads monthly clinical IDT meetings.
9) Collaborates with Divisional clinical core leader to produce an outline of long-term Medical Director responsibilities.
10) Attends monthly clinic leadership meetings to review quality and operational data, address any issues related to clinic operations, and strategically plan for future growth.
