Sr. Medical Director of Hospice
Sutter Care at Home

Sutter Care at Home (SCAH) currently has a unique opportunity for a subspecialty boarded Hospice and Palliative Medicine Physician to serve in an administrative leadership role with medical oversight of all hospice physicians/nurse practitioners at all 7 Medicare licensed agencies currently operated throughout northern California. This role will work in a dyad relationship with the Hospice Director of Operations and report to the Chief Medical Officer of Sutter Care at Home. This role will also work closely with the SCAH CMO/ELT to support palliative care services at our PACE program (Sutter Senior Care in Sacramento, CA). Office location in East Bay with expectations of frequent travel throughout Sutter Care at Home hospice locations through Northern California.

Duties:

Directly manages all facets of Hospice Medical Directors and Physicians at Sutter Care at Home- including and not limited to their recruitment, training, performance, productivity, documentation, quality outcomes, as well as any/all issues related to regulation/compliance.
Directly oversees all activities/performance/duties of all Nurse practitioners at SCAH, through the direct reporting of an NP supervisor.
Participates in SCAH Executive Leadership team, including creating budgets/staffing ratios/recruitment/retention of all hospice physician and nurse practitioners.
Works closely with Director of Hospice Operations in a dyad leadership model to oversee all hospice administrators to ensure alignment with growth, quality and operational strategies and goals. This will also include survey readiness and participate as needed in any hospice audits, ADRs, and/or targeted medical reviews.
Work closely with Strategy/Business relations to provide support of any and all community education, growth and referral sources.
Work closely with CMO to deliver high quality standardized Hospice GIP care at all contracted facilities.
Work closely with CMO to prioritize and maximize physician home visit program, particularly as relates to medically necessary visits.
Support system hospice and palliative care initiatives including Sutter Health Network/Population Health/Advance Illness Management (AIM), particularly as relates to eligible patients in SCAH Home Health benefit.
Work closely with Sutter Senior Care Medical Director to support provision of palliative care services within the PACE model.
Create/support and update after hours hospice physician call schedule.
Work closely with Hospice Quality Director in regards to physician and nurse practitioner documentation audits, quality goals, bioethics consults.
Work with CMO/Business relations/Hospice Medical Directors to build and support a hospice physician speakers bureau.
Work closely with hospice education leader to support education within SCAH, Sutter Health- including GME program lectures and precepting opportunities.
Qualifications:

Active Primary Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or other ABMS Board Specialty (Required).
Subspecialty Board Certification in Hospice & Palliative Medicine (Required)
Hospice Medical Director Certification (preferred)
At least 5 years of Palliative care & Hospice Experience (including Management of physicians)
Active unrestricted California Medical License upon hire
Active unrestricted DEA licensure (Required)

Competitive salary and benefits package
Annual compensation range of $310,000 to $410,000 (based on experience)
