Description

The Division of Primary Care and Population Health at Stanford University School of Medicine is seeking a full-time palliative medicine clinician-educator with advanced training in palliative medicine to join our Palliative Care Section. Primary clinical responsibilities include working in our outpatient palliative medicine clinic which cares for patients with a wide range of life-limiting illness, oncologic disease being the most prominent. Our outpatient program functions as a multidisciplinary team consisting of physicians, advance practice providers, nurses, social workers, chaplains and full-time clinic support staff at each clinic site. Clinics are currently located at three different locations in the Bay Area, with majority of visits being completed via telemedicine. If interested, there is also opportunity to attend on our dynamic hospital-based, multidisciplinary consult service. Educational responsibilities include teaching at multiple physician training levels, from medical students to palliative medicine fellows as well as additional opportunities to teach in other structured settings for medical trainees and other disciplines. Board certification in one’s primary discipline is required, and candidates must also be board eligible/board certified in palliative medicine. Potential leadership opportunities exist from this position.

The outpatient Palliative Care team is a rapidly growing service, having grown by over 60% in the past four years. We project to complete over 7000 patient visits this fiscal year. The Palliative Care Service at Stanford Hospital also consists of physicians, advanced practice nurses, social workers, a chaplain fellow and a full-time administrative assistant as the core team dedicated to Stanford University Medical Center, a 450+ bed university hospital. The inpatient service sees over 1000 new patients each year with diverse diseases and is the major training site for the Stanford Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship. The qualified candidate will possess broad clinical knowledge and demonstrated experience in palliative care, evidence-based practice, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
