The University of Washington Department of Family Medicine seeks a Full-Time Palliative Care Clinician with their primary board in Family Medicine. The applicant will initially be considered for an Acting Assistant Professor, while faculty of higher rank are encouraged to apply for this Full-Time – non-Tenured faculty position within the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Washington Family Medicine.
The successful applicant will be on a full-time, 12-month appointment (July 1-June 30) in the clinician-educator or clinician track. The expected start date is August 1, 2021, or soon thereafter.

This position expects that the faculty hired will participate in departmental activities for the Department of Family Medicine, while their clinical work will be focused on palliative care. They are expected to participate in the teaching mission of the Department, especially as it relates to their clinical work and expertise. The FTE represents clinical scheduled time and administrative/teaching time. This position is funded by clinical revenue.
Their clinical work will include providing inpatient palliative care consultation for the UW Medicine Palliative Care Service, which potentially includes activities at 3 hospital sites (University Washington Medical Center – Montlake and Northwest hospitals and Harborview Medical Center).
Clinical duties will include palliative care consultation to medical teams, patients and families, nursing and social services, and spiritual care staff. The candidate chosen will be responsible for providing palliative care independently and collaboratively with appropriate privileges, including initial and ongoing assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patient’s medical, physical and psychosocial status. The successful candidate is also expected to teach, mentor and advise residents, fellows and medical students.
Other duties expected of a successful candidate includes teaching and services aligned with the academic mission of University of Washington, commensurate with rank. Additionally, they will be expected to work on academic research and projects mutually agreed upon with the director of the palliative care service in non-clinical work hours. Also, interests in medical student and resident level education as well as collaborative clinical research.
Applicants are required to have an MD, DO, or foreign equivalent with current certification by the American Board of Family Medicine.
• Washington State Medical License (DEA and NPI), or license eligible
• Board certified in Family Medicine
• Board certified (or board eligible) in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
