Description

The Medical Director of Chapters Health Palliative Care has responsibility for the medical direction of the care and treatment of patients served by Chapters Health Palliative Care in the specific geographic region in hospitals, other health care settings, as well as outpatient clinics. The Medical Director is responsible for assisting in the ongoing development and growth of the Palliative Care Program in that region. S/he serves as liaison between the program and community partners and physicians, as well as with other health care professionals engaged in palliative care services.

Qualifications:

MD or DO from an accredited medical school
Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Florida
Knowledge and experience in palliative medical practice and symptom management
Preferred: Board certification or eligible in hospice and palliative medicine
Intermittent Driver - Valid Florida driver's license and automobile insurance as per Company policy
Ability to obtain hospital and other health care facility privileges as well as make patient visits at appropriate health care facilities
Leadership skills to supervise medical staff
Knowledge of quality assurance/performance improvement practicesCompetencies

Provides clinical leadership in the strategic development and operational management of regional palliative care services or programs.
Serves as a liaison between Palliative Care and its regional contracted facilities and clinics to enhance relationships and ensure that protocols, performance improvement and compliance programs are implemented appropriately.
Actively participates in the orientation and education of regional palliative care medical staff as well as addresses ongoing educational needs of staff and community partners.
Provides oversight and supervision for clinical practice of regional palliative care services including appropriate scheduling, documentation, billing and monitoring of productivity.
Provides timely direct care and oversight for clinical expertise regarding complex medical decision making and complex symptom management while identifying and addressing patient/family needs ensuring that the highest quality of palliative care services are provided to palliative care patients in contracted facilities, clinics and homes.
Participates in the development of and approval of clinical protocols and clinical practice guidelines for facilities and providers.
Supervises educational plans of fellows, residents and students who rotate with Palliative Care in the assigned region.
Assists in preparation of certification programs, as applicable, such as Joint Commission Palliative Care Certification, in collaboration with the AVP, Palliative Medical Services and Director, Palliative Care.
