SUMMARY

We are currently seeking physicians to join the Palliative Care and/or Hospice teams at UNC Health Care. The scope of work may focus solely on palliative care, or hospice care; or may be a blended role of palliative care and hospice care. For palliative care the location of work may range from inpatient, outpatient to community based. Hospice care will be a blend of inpatient care at the UNC Hospice House or hospice care in the home. The Palliative Care and/or Hospice schedule will be primarily days with on-call, weekends and holidays. Opportunities for affiliation and engagement with a leading academic organization are available.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provision of direct patient care and consultation including patient and family counseling and symptom management related to life limiting and/or terminal conditions
Collaboration with interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers and chaplains
Planning patient care for treatment of patient, ensuring continuity of care
Preparation and maintenance of accurate patient records/charts/documents to support sound medical practice and reimbursement for services
Building effective relationships with other physicians and referral sources to ensure excellent team follow-up
Proactive identification of opportunities to innovate in care delivery in order to improve the patient and caregiver experience of care for serious illnesses
Developing curricular materials and participating in the education of other medical professionals
Applying principles of medical ethics in the practice of serious illness care and shared decision-making

QUALIFICATIONS

Doctor of Medicine degree or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine degree from an accredited institution
Completion of an accredited United States Residency Program
Valid and unrestricted license in the State of North Carolina
Valid, unrestricted DEA licensure
Board certification in primary area of practice (internal medicine, family medicine, pediatrics or psychiatry. Other specialties will be considered if candidate has palliative care and/or hospice experience or certification
