Johns Hopkins Community Physicians Seeking a Nurse Practitioner to provide clinical care to hospitalized inpatients throughout the hospital (medical and intensive care units) and to work collaboratively with the rest of the medical care team to meet established palliative care goals. Responsible for performing many patient-oriented tasks including interviewing patients, taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, making diagnoses, and prescribing appropriate treatments. He/she will work with a strong focus pain and symptom management and advance care planning.
The Nurse Practitioner will work 5 days per week, with activities including involvement in hospital committees and educational activities related to palliative medicine.
Essential Job Functions:
The Nurse Practitioner will see inpatients referred by providers throughout Suburban Hospital for management of pain and other symptoms, arrange and conduct family meetings and provide advance care planning for patients and families. The NP will also provide education throughout the hospital commensurate with his/her training.
Participates as an expert clinician in institutional activities that enhance the overall quality palliative care related to nursing. Works closely with Medical Director of the Palliative Care Service. Remains up-to-date on professional education in palliative medicine. Develops lectures, talks and in-services as needed. Deals with on-going patient phone calls. Completes clinical documentation and billing activities necessary for efficient and effective clinic operations. Assists in development of clinical practice guidelines and standards in support of quality palliative care as requested by supervisor.
Outpatient palliative care role may develop.
CPR certification required
