The Power of Storytelling: Engaging Palliative Care Teams in Health Equity

The Pediatric Palliative Care Team at Seattle Children's Hospital integrated health equity into its everyday practice by incorporating equity-focused discussions into clinical and team workflows. The team reviews patient cases during daily rounds with attention to factors that may affect equitable care delivery and dedicates time during monthly interdisciplinary meetings to explore equity and access challenges through case-based discussions. To further support this work, the team partners with the institution's Center for Diversity and Health Equity, Cultural Navigation Program, and Interpreter Services to help identify and address barriers affecting patients and families.
