Overview

Latina women living with and beyond breast cancer can face disparities in access to culturally and linguistically appropriate survivorship support. Nuevo Amanecer (New Dawn) was developed to provide Spanish-speaking Latina women with culturally tailored emotional support, stress management, and survivorship education.

The program is delivered by trained Latina breast cancer survivors (compañeras) and uses accessible, culturally relevant education focused on coping, communication, goal setting, and emotional well-being. A rural adaptation, Nuevo Amanecer-II, expanded the program to address longer-term survivorship, self-care, and chronic disease management. Both programs were developed through community partnerships to ensure the interventions reflected the needs and priorities of Latina breast cancer survivors.
