Managing Expectations in Times of Uncertainty
Overview
COVID-19 is forcing us all to navigate through uncertain times. Many palliative care leaders cite this as a key challenge and are searching for new tools to assist.
This presentation illustrates a systematic, case-based approach to managing expectations during times of uncertainty. During the Master Clinician session, Karen Steinhauser, PhD, and Sharon Hull, MD, professional development coaches at Duke University School of Medicine, coached CAPC member Stephanie Terauchi, MD, FAAHPM, on an active leadership or managerial issue. After debriefing the coaching session, the presenters fielded questions from other participants about their current challenges. By the end of the session, participants were able to identify key components of this systematic approach, and were equipped with skills for managing and addressing expectations during times like the present.
