The Elephant in the Room: Overcoming Barriers in Conversation with People with Cancer

Palliative care providers may be asked to support patients during discussions of prognosis, values, and advance care planning with their respective oncology teams. While most patients value open communication, barriers may exist when broaching these topics. In this session, Nina O’Connor and Jill Farabelli discuss clinical and system strategies that can be used to promote early and open communication with people living with cancer, with a focus on goals and priorities.
