Top Ten Tips Palliative Clinicians Should Know About Evidence-Based Advocacy
In a recent article published in Journal of Palliative Medicine (JPM), Billy Rosa, PhD, et al. discuss why all palliative care specialists should advocate for enhanced policies to better support care for people living with serious illness, and tips for getting started. The authors, which include CAPC's Allison Silvers and Stacie Sinclair, argue that palliative care specialists are uniquely well-suited to advocacy because of their capacity to build meaningful relationships. Additional tips for evidence-based advocacy include using a consensus-based definition of palliative care; leveraging data to explain the value of palliative care and how it can address critical gaps in care; and identifying advocacy allies outside of the specialty palliative care space.
