Specialized palliative care was shown to be beneficial to adolescents and young adults with cancer receiving high-intensity end-of-life care.

Many adolescents and young adults (15-39 years) with cancer continue to receive high-intensity care at the end of life. In a study in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, authors found a clear benefit to specialized palliative care involvement in reducing care intensity. Access remains challenging and further advocacy is needed. However, it is encouraging that specialized palliative care engagement has increased in recent years.
