The Digital Divide: Do Older Adults with Serious Illness Access Telemedicine?
In a recent study published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, Julia L. Frydman, MD, et al. sought to understand if digital access has increased among people living with serious illness as it has in general population. Using data from 2011-2017, the authors found large and widening gaps in digital access for older adults with serious illness, presenting a barrier to health care access. The authors discuss predictions in access with the pandemic, and also share solutions that may be explored to achieve equity in telemedicine with this population.
