Senators Support Community-Based Palliative Care
On June 16, 2022, Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV), John Barrasso (R-WY), and Deb Fischer (R-NE), along with six other bipartisan Senators, sent a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services voicing their support for a community-based palliative care (CbPC) demonstration model. The letter described the benefits of CbPC for people living with serious illness and highlighted that current payment models may miss some patients in need. Senators Rosen, Barrasso, and Fischer are co-founders of the Senate Comprehensive Care Caucus and have previously supported other palliative care-focused legislation, including the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (PCHETA).
