Palliative Care Attitudes and Experiences Among Resident Physicians at HBCUs
In a study published in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, Vasilii P. Bushunow, MD, et al. sought to investigate palliative care attitudes among primary care residents at two Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), via a previously-validated online survey. The majority of respondents shared that learning about palliative care was moderately/very important, while the quality of palliative care teaching was rated lower than their overall medical education. The study concludes that residents at HBCU academic medical centers are interested in palliative care, but there are opportunities to improve both formal and informal palliative care education.
