Paid Caregiving in Dementia Care: Perspectives from Paid Caregivers, Family Caregivers, and Geriatricians
A study published in Gerontologist examines the evolving role of paid caregivers over time in home-based dementia care through interviews with paid caregivers, family caregivers, and geriatricians. Over six months, seventy-five interviews revealed that paid caregivers play unique, consistent roles tailored to the needs of people living with dementia and their families, emphasizing emotional support and collaboration with family caregivers. The findings suggest that enhancing person-centered and family-centered care can improve the positive impact of paid caregivers on dementia care.
