Optimizing Buprenorphine for Pain and Substance Use Disorder in Patients with Serious Illness: A Case-Based Approach
CAPC is offering new case-based virtual clinical workshops for physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), and registered nurses, providing practical guidance on using buprenorphine to manage pain in patients living with both serious illness and substance use disorder. Space is limited. The workshop will cover:
- An overview of buprenorphine and how to take advantage of its unique pharmacology for patients with substance use disorder
- The complexities of managing acute pain while on buprenorphine
- Evidence-based dosing, with guidance on opioid rotations to and from buprenorphine
- Practical tips on effective prescriptions and navigating buprenorphine access
The Case for Palliative Care in Kidney Care
The Case for Palliative Care in Kidney Care, a new publication from CAPC and the National Kidney Foundation (NKF), emphasizes the critical need to integrate palliative care services into the treatment of patients with advanced kidney disease. The publication calls on nephrology practices, dialysis centers, and health systems to strengthen their palliative care capabilities through clinician training, collaboration with specialty teams, and systemic changes that prioritize patient-centered outcomes, as well as resources to help meet this goal.

Strengthening Community-Based Palliative Care Through Quality Standards and Practical Tools
On Thursday, October 30, from 1-2 PM EDT, join CAPC's Brynn Bowman, MPA (CEO), Constance Dahlin, MSN, ANP-BC, ACHPN, FPCN, FAAN (Consultant, CAPC), and Becky Tolson, RN, BS (Survey Operations Manager, ACHC) for a practical discussion on building and strengthening high-quality community-based palliative care programs for both adults and children. At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- State three essential components of high-quality, community-based palliative care.
- Discuss the use of NCP Clinical Practice Guidelines to create a quality program.
- Identify CAPC/Alliance/ACHC resources to support the design and implementation of a sustainable palliative care program.
