Naming the Problem: A Structural Racism Framework to Examine Disparities in Palliative Care
Authors Puja. J. Umaretiya, MD, et al. wrote an letter to the editor of the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management (JPSM), systematically outlining three pathways by which structural racism contributes to disparities in palliative care. These pathways include: access to care; the patient-health care system interaction; and toxic stress. The authors suggest that these pathways could guide future interventions to dismantle disparities, to ultimately achieve equitable palliative care delivery.
