JPSM letter to editor calls out the need to name structural racism as a root cause driving disparities in palliative care delivery.

Authors Puja. J. Umaretiya, MD, et al. wrote an letter to the editor of the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management (JPSM), systematically outlining three pathways by which structural racism contributes to disparities in palliative care. These pathways include: access to care; the patient-health care system interaction; and toxic stress. The authors suggest that these pathways could guide future interventions to dismantle disparities, to ultimately achieve equitable palliative care delivery.
