9 MA organizations cover hospice benefits; new applications expected for 2022.

On Friday, September 25, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) announced the Medicare Advantage plans which will cover hospice benefits beginning in plan year 2021. Under the Medicare Advantage Value-based Insurance Design (VBID) model, 9 organizations across more than 2,000 Medicare plans will cover hospice benefits for their enrolled Medicare beneficiaries. The participating plans are across 13 states and Puerto Rico, and include organizations that have been pioneers in Medicare Advantage-supported palliative care, including Kaiser Permanente Southern California, HMSA, Commonwealth Care Alliance, Intermountain Health Care/SelectHealth, Presbyterian Healthcare Services in New Mexico, and Visiting Nurse Service of New York. In addition, CMMI has announced that they will be re-opening the application for plans seeking to participate in the hospice carve-in for the 2022 plan year.
