Hospice Benefit Medicare Advantage “Carve-In” Model Released

February 7, 2020 | By CAPC Staff

Interested Medicare Advantage plans must apply by March 16, 2020

Medicare beneficiaries electing hospice care have always received those benefits directly from Medicare. Now, a new Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation model is allowing Medicare Advantage plans (private plans which cover all other Part A and Part B benefits on behalf of enrolled beneficiaries) to voluntarily cover hospice benefits. This “hospice carve-in” to Medicare Advantage rolls out over a four year period to begin January 2021, and interested plans will need to apply by March 16, 2020.

Learn more about this model, including what hospice network and palliative care requirements it includes, here.
