Interested Medicare Advantage plans must apply by March 16, 2020

Medicare beneficiaries electing hospice care have always received those benefits directly from Medicare. Now, a new Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation model is allowing Medicare Advantage plans (private plans which cover all other Part A and Part B benefits on behalf of enrolled beneficiaries) to voluntarily cover hospice benefits. This “hospice carve-in” to Medicare Advantage rolls out over a four year period to begin January 2021, and interested plans will need to apply by March 16, 2020.
