Equity Concerns with Use of AI Mortality Predictions
A study published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine examined the link between mortality risks indicated by AI-generated mortality risk scores and goals of care (GOC) documentation. The authors discovered that AI predictions might lead to disparities in the prevalence of GOC documentation, disadvantaging patients with serious illness who lack AI scores, particularly those more likely to be non-White or covered by Medicaid.
