Communication Challenges in Caring for Patients with Neurodegenerative Diseases
A recent article in Neurology Advisor summarizes results of a small study, published in the American Academy of Neurology. The study explores challenges in communication among neurology clinicians, who often have difficult conversations with patients and their caregivers, without having training in core palliative care skills (e.g. communication skills). The authors conclude that there is a "need for a systemic, structured approach to communication, that can be applied early in the disease trajectory", including skills training, and when to call upon the palliative care team.
