CMS Allows Medicare Reimbursement of Telehealth Visits

Updated March 30, 2020 | By CAPC Staff

In response to COVID-19, Medicare is now reimbursing for telehealth visits at same rates as face-to-face visits, and more.

Under the COVID Public Health Emergency declaration, Medicare will reimburse participating clinicians for telehealth visits at the same payment rates as face-to-face visits, and allows practices to reduce or waive patient co-pays and deductibles. Other encounters, including brief communications and portal communications initiated by the patient can also be reimbursed. For more information, see this Fact Sheet, and for the encounter codes, see the current Medicare codes.
