Clinicians' Views on the Use of Triggers for Specialist Palliative Care in the ICU
In an article published in the Journal of Critical Care, Komal Patel, Murali, PhD, RN, ACNP-BC, outlined the benefits of palliative care for patients in the ICU, explaining barriers to integration, which results in its underutlization. Knowing that a way to improve integration is through triggers, the authors sought to understand clinicians' views regarding triggers, via a secondary analysis of qualitative data. They identified five major themes and considerations for implementing triggers for palliative care consultation in the ICU.
