Virtual Workshops on Prescribing Ketamine for Symptom Management in Patients with Serious Illness

The Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) is offering new virtual clinical workshops focused on the use of ketamine for patients living with serious illness, particularly those experiencing refractory pain and treatment-resistant depression. Taught by expert faculty, these case-based, two-hour interactive sessions equip clinicians with practical knowledge on the safe and effective use of ketamine, including real-world applications and clinical decision-making strategies. Participants will gain an increased understanding of:
- What ketamine is, how it works, and its unique potential for patients with serious illness in complex palliative care scenarios.
- The neurobiology of ketamine, including its action on NMDA receptors and relevance to symptom control.
- The current evidence outlining the utilization of ketamine for patients with serious illness, with a focus on refractory pain and depression.
- Practical guidance on prescribing strategies, including routes, dosing, safety profiles, and side effect management.
- Navigating regulatory and logistical barriers to prescribing.
- Ethical and clinical decisions in prescribing ketamine working through real-world case vignettes.
CAPC membership is NOT required, but members receive discounted registration.
