Overview

It is rare for a week to go by without a newly published study on psychedelics in peer-reviewed medical journals. Psychedelics (e.g., cannabis, ketamine, psilocybin, and ayahuasca) are becoming an increasingly popular area of research for medical professionals in treating certain disorders such as persistent depression, PTSD, and substance abuse. Additionally, interest in entheogens—psychedelics taken for religious or spiritual purposes—has sparked the development of “Entheogenic Integrative Care.” This type of care involves clinicians making evidence-informed prescriptions for the therapeutic use of these psychoactive substances.

In this Master Clinician session, speaker Sunil K. Aggarwal, MD, PhD, FAAPMR, FAAHPM describes the spiritual and existential dimension of health necessary for understanding therapeutic applications of entheogens in medicine and public health. He also shares how entheogen-assisted therapies are currently being (or will be) applied in an outpatient integrative practice, to relieve existential and spiritual suffering in serious and chronic health conditions, trauma, and beyond.
