Training and Practice Gaps in Palliative Care Delivered in Nursing Homes
Authors of a study published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society sought to understand the perspectives of nursing home clinicians regarding their attitudes toward and experiences with palliative care. Most respondents believed palliative care improves quality of life, but only two-thirds correctly distinguished it from hospice. The study found variations in attitudes and engagement across disciplines, highlighting the need for discipline-specific training and program design to strengthen palliative care delivery in nursing homes.
