Study finds a geriatric oncology communication training program improved clinicians' knowledge, self-efficacy, and communication skills when caring for older adults with cancer.

A study published in JCO Oncology Practice evaluated an evidence-based training program designed to address a significant gap: few health care practitioners receive adequate training in communicating effectively with older adults with cancer and their caregivers. Among 282 clinicians across more than eight disciplines, the two-day Geriatric Oncology: Cognition and Communication (Geri Onc CC) program resulted in significant improvements in knowledge, self-efficacy, and communication skills across five categories, including agenda setting, empathy, and geriatric-specific skills.
