Training Clinicians Caring for Seriously Ill LGBTQ+ Patients and Their Partners
In a study published in Palliative Medicine, researchers sought to document disrespectful and discriminatory health care provided to LGBTQ+ people living with serious illness, and their partners—and identify areas for clinician training. Through survey results, the researchers identified seven critical areas for training, including addressing provider discomfort, knowledge gaps, and asking about important relationships, to improve care. They concluded that health care organizations should enforce nondiscrimination policies and provide staff training to ensure equitable, compassionate care for all patients.
