Top Ten Tips Palliative Care Clinicians Should Know About Caring for People with Interstitial Lung Diseases
An article published in the Journal of Palliative Medicine offers ten practical tips for palliative care clinicians caring for people with interstitial lung diseases (ILD), a heterogeneous group of illnesses whose symptom burden and care needs are often under addressed. Compiled by a multidisciplinary and interprofessional group of pulmonologists, intensivists, nurses, psychologists, and palliative care specialists, the tips address illness patterns, prognosis, symptom management, therapeutic options including lung transplant, and other supportive interventions across the illness trajectory. The authors also call for skill-building among pulmonologists and primary care clinicians to strengthen care for this population.
