Buprenorphine Toolkit Improves Clinician Confidence in Serious Illness Care
A new cohort study in the Journal of Palliative Care, co-authored by Dr. Diane E. Meier, Founder, Director Emerita, and Strategic Medical Advisor at CAPC, found that a Buprenorphine Pocket Card and Tool Kit (Bupe PC&TK) significantly improved palliative care clinicians’ confidence and knowledge in prescribing buprenorphine. Survey results showed clinicians viewed buprenorphine as important but underused for patients with serious illness, with notable gaps in prescribing confidence and accuracy at baseline. After six weeks of using the toolkit, participants reported higher confidence and improved knowledge across key prescribing areas, supporting safer and more effective opioid management.
