A new study shows stepped palliative care significantly reduces visits while maintaining quality of life for people with advanced lung cancer

A new randomized clinical trial published in JAMA investigates the effectiveness of a stepped palliative care model for people living with advanced lung cancer, where care intensity is adjusted based on the patient's quality of life (QOL) needs. Results demonstrated that patients receiving stepped palliative care had significantly fewer palliative care visits compared to those receiving regular early palliative care, while maintaining similiar QOL scores at 24 weeks. This model presents a more scalable approach to delivering palliative care without compromising patient outcomes.
