A study in Journal of Palliative Medicine finds that structured, case-based “Process Rounds” help palliative care clinicians strengthen psychologically informed communication and apply key skills more confidently in practice.

A study in Journal of Palliative Medicine evaluated Process Rounds, a four-session, case-based learning program designed to reinforce psychological skills introduced in a serious illness communication workshop for palliative care clinicians. Participants reported high satisfaction, increased confidence applying psychological concepts, and greater perceived impact on clinical practice compared with nonparticipants. The structured, reflective format helped clinicians better integrate case formulation, countertransference awareness, and mindful communication, though scheduling challenges limited participation. The findings suggest Process Rounds may be an effective way to extend and deepen communication training in palliative care.
