PCHETA Introduced in 119th Congress
On July 15, Senators Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Shelly Moore Capito (R-WV) reintroduced the Palliative Care and Hospice Education and Training Act (PCHETA, S. 2287) in the Senate. On July 16, Representatives Buddy Carter (R-GA-01) and Ami Bera (D-CA-06) introduced an identical bill (H.R. 4425) in the House. Championed by the Patient Quality of Life Coalition (PQLC), this bipartisan, bicameral legislation would improve the care for people living with serious illness by:
- Growing the interdisciplinary palliative care workforce through training, faculty grants, career awards, and fellowship programs
- Increasing awareness of palliative care by establishing a national campaign
- Bolstering research by coordinating efforts across the National Institutes of Health
The PQLC Lobby Day to educate policymakers on the value of palliative care and PCHETA will take place on July 22. Please contact Auda Martinez with any questions.
