In a study published in the Journal of Health Psychology, researchers explored how caring for and losing a parent with cancer affects sibling relationships among emerging and young adults (EYACs, aged 18–35). The study found that sibling communication and caregiving involvement varied widely—some siblings collaborated and supported each other, while others functioned as the sole caregiver with limited interaction. Open communication and shared understanding of caregiving roles were associated with stronger sibling bonds during bereavement, highlighting the potential value of interventions that help siblings navigate conflict and preserve their relationships.
