A lay-coach program helps adolescents and young adults living with advanced cancer build resilience, hope, and engagement in their care.

An article published in The ASCO Post, reports on a randomized trial of PRISM-AC, a structured coaching program delivered by trained lay coaches that teaches adolescents and young adults skills to enhance resilience, hope, and coping while living with advanced cancer. Participants who received the intervention had significantly greater improvements in resilience and hope at 3 months compared to usual care, with progressive gains in quality of life, anxiety, and depression over 6 to 12 months, and appeared more engaged in key health care decisions.
