This past December, the Roundtable on Quality Care for People with Serious Illness hosted a public workshop examining the challenges and opportunities associated with identifying and integrating the voice of seriously ill patients of all ages. The discussions centered around how patients and caregivers can be consistently included into person-centered care throughout the continuum of care.

This week, videos were released from this impactful and informative event. One particular video features palliative care advocate Suzie West as she tells her story of her husband Douglas West, who received and greatly benefitted from palliative care while dealing with a serious illness. Director of CAPC Diane Meier, MD, was Douglas’ palliative care doctor at the time. In the video, Diane tells an important story of the problematic issues with how care was being delivered that ultimately brought her to the palliative care profession and inspired her to lead the charge for implementing palliative care all over the country.
