Changes create new flexibilities for key professionals to work to the top of their licenses.

On April 9, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) updated its growing list of COVID-19-related waivers to include new flexibilities for certain health care professionals, allowing them to practice more fully under their licenses. Key changes reduce supervision requirements for physicians, and provide more opportunities for physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and clinical nurse specialists – among others – to perform more services in hospitals, critical access hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities.
