Inpatient Palliative Care Enhances Quality of Life and Reduces PTSD in HSCT Patients
A study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology found that inpatient palliative care for patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) significantly improved quality of life, reduced depression, and decreased PTSD symptoms at two weeks into hospitalization. While only PTSD symptom reduction persisted up to six months post-transplant, the findings support integrating palliative care into standard inpatient care for people with hematologic malignancies, despite no observed improvements in anxiety or caregiver outcomes.
