Study finds LGBTQ+ young adult cancer survivors in North Carolina experience higher rates of violence, homelessness, PTSD, and more, compared to their peers.

A study published in the Journal of Adolescent and Young Adult Oncology examined the well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals in North Carolina, focusing on the impact of age and cancer history on experiences of discrimination, violence, mental health, and substance use. The findings revealed that young adult LGBTQ+ cancer survivors reported higher rates of violence, sexual assault, homelessness, PTSD, and substance use, in comparison to their peers without a cancer history and older LGBTQ+ individuals, which highlights significant disparities in this population.
