Evaluation of Reporting of Race and Ethnicity in Palliative Care Research
An article published in the Journal of Palliative Medicine sought to assess pre-COVID pandemic racial and ethnic representation among subjects in palliative care research. The authors found found significant underrepresentation of minoritized groups, and noted that most studies either used nonstandard categories, grouped diverse populations into “other,” or focused primarily on White participants—raising concerns about the generalizability of findings and equity in research practices. The authors call for more inclusive and standardized approaches to improve representation and advance health equity in palliative care research.
