Early Palliative Care Associated with Reduced ED Utilization in Pancreatic Cancer

Study finds connection between early palliative care encounters and fewer emergency department (ED) visits and charges.

Authors of a recent study published in the American Journal of Clinical Oncology found that the timing of palliative care referrals for people living with pancreatic cancer matters. The authors concluded that early palliative care referrals were associated with lower ED visits and ED-related charges, supporting American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) guidelines about early palliative care.
