The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced a six-month nationwide moratorium on new hospice and home health Medicare enrollments, effective May 13, as part of ongoing efforts to combat fraud and abuse in the sector.

The temporary freeze applies to new Medicare enrollment applications and certain ownership changes for hospice and home health providers. CMS said the moratorium will allow the agency to strengthen fraud investigations, expand data analytics efforts, and remove fraudulent operators from the Medicare program.
