Caregiver Communication and Preparedness During Transitions in Care
Researchers of a study published in the Journal of Palliative Medicine tested an video-based intervention pairing rural family caregivers (FCGs) of patients receiving inpatient palliative care with palliative care nurses during hospital-to-home transitions. The intervention significantly improved caregivers’ preparedness for their caregiving roles, though it did not significantly change communication practices with health care teams. The study suggests that targeted video support can help rural caregivers better manage care transitions, but enhancing communication may require additional strategies.
