Assessing the Quality and Impact of Goals of Care Documentation Before ICU Transfer
In a study published in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, researchers found that one in five hospitalized adult patients had high-quality goals of care documentation before being transferred to the ICU. Palliative care involvement was among one of the factors associated with higher-quality documentation, suggesting that early engagement of palliative care may help ensure that patients’ preferences and priorities are discussed and recorded.
