We are seeking the best qualified candidate for a clinician-educator position.
The Mount Sinai School of Medicine is internationally recognized for innovative approaches to medical education and research. It is seamlessly connected to Mount Sinai Hospital, one of the county’s oldest and largest voluntary teaching hospitals. The School’s Hertzberg Palliative Care Institute is an international leader in the field of palliative medicine.
The palliative medicine physician will spend approximately 50% time working with the interdisciplinary team comprised of nursing, social workers, massage and yoga therapists and a chaplain. Palliative Care Physician
Columbus, OHMount Carmel Health System is currently seeking 1 FTE physician for its established, nationally recognized Palliative Care and Hospice programs. Physician component comprised of 4.6 FTE Palliative/Hospice physicians, 2 FTE Palliative Nurse Practitioners, 2 FTE Nurse Clinicians.
Mount Carmel is a four-hospital system, three having Palliative Care Units totaling 19 beds. This physician would provide hospice home visiting, inpatient palliative consultation, and medical oversight of hospice home program. On-call responsibility shared by the physicians and nurse practitioners.
Mount Carmel Hospice serves an ADC 200 patients; Mount Carmel Palliative Care serves approximately 2000 patients per year and is a CAPC Palliative Care Leadership Center; and due to our extensive database, we participate in publishing and research.
Qualified candidate must have completed residency in an ACGME accredited program. Prefer two or more years of experience including hospice and palliative consultations, policy development, adult medical education. BC/BE in Hospice and Palliative Medicine; or Fellowship Training. Palliative Medicine Faculty Appointment
Iowa City, IAThe University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is seeking a dynamic BC/BE Hospice and Palliative Medicine physician to staff a growing and well-supported academic program. Responsibilities will include staffing inpatient and outpatient consultative services, working on an exceptional interdisciplinary team, and teaching throughout the institution. We are interested in applicants at all ranks in the Clinical Track. Candidates may have completed training in any of the approved AHPM specialties and must have an M.D. or D.O. degree. Candidates should possess outstanding abilities in teaching and clinical medicine. Salary is based on the academic level of entry and on the applicant’s qualifications and responsibilities.
The Palliative Care Program consists of a Consult Service and an Inpatient Unit, with an active teaching focus for rotating residents, and hospital staff. Established in 1999, it now has a full team, including nurses, social worker, chaplain, music therapist and physicians. The consultative service enjoys excellent clinical relationships with oncology and intensive care services. Over the next year, the service will establish an outpatient clinic, and grow its presence in the Emergency Department and in other clinical services. Additional opportunities for program development and advancement exist at an affiliated VA Hospital which is in the process of building a palliative care service.

Medical Director Palliative Care Prgrm/VNA Hospice
Mercy Hospital, Portland, MaineThe Palliative Care Physician (“Physician”) provides comprehensive care for Mercy Health System (“MHSM”) patients with serious or life threatening illnesses with a focus on the improvement of quality of life through the alleviation of pain and suffering. The Physician in this position is responsible for the provision of Palliative Care Consultations throughout MHSM. The physician must continually focus on patient safety and ensure timely and correct disposition of all patients, including appropriate coordination of care and patient self-management opportunities. The physician must maintain a strong working rapport with all Mercy Medical Associates, Mercy Specialist and Primary Care physicians, Mercy Behavioral Health, and the Mercy medical staff. The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position. In addition, the incumbent conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Mercy Hospital.
As the VNA Hospice Medical Director, the Physician is responsible as a member of the interdisciplinary team for providing guidance in policy setting for hospice and palliative care provided through VNA's Hospice Program, for consultation to maintain the standards of hospice and palliative care, is responsible for the medical oversight of patient care of the program and for providing guidance when indicated to VNA regarding compliance with state and federal rules and regulation and with accrediting bodies.
Minimum Qualifications:
A MD or DO required. Must be Board certified or eligible in Hospice/Palliative Medicine. Minimum of one year of experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team. Must be eligible for Mercy Hospital Staff membership. Must hold a valid State of Maine license. Strongly preferred credentials include Fellowship training in an AAHPM approved program, with certification by the ABHPM. Proven clinical experience and competence in both hospice care and palliative medicine: commitment to a team approach, including teaching of allied and mid-level practitioners; superior interpersonal, organization and communication skills. Broad and in-depth technical knowledge and skills related to the practice of oncology and hematology. Ability to speak clearly and comfortably to and use tact, discretion and sensitivity in dealing with patients, including excellent interviewing and counseling skills. Ability to explain medical problems and treatments in accurate and understandable lay language.

St John’s Hospice, London.This job (initially until August 2009) will provide an excellent opportunity to get a great start in Palliative Medicine. We are looking for a motivated doctor to join our multiprofessional team providing Specialist Palliative Care to residents of Central London.
The Hospice is situated within the Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth, and provides a 19 bed inpatient unit, daycare and homecare, as well as Hospice at Home to Westminster. The Hospice takes patients from 9 PCTs and enjoys the full services of the hospital including pathology and MRI.
You will be part of a motivated team consisting of a Consultant, SpR and SHO. You will be expected to work across all settings, in patient, daycare and community. Start date early February.
There is no on call involved in this post.

- Participate in and develop inpatient and community programs that benefit patient, families and staff.
- Implement support groups for palliative care families, if not served by existing groups.
- Perform follow-up service as needed to measure clinical outcomes.
- Participate in staff development and performance improvement program activities to increase self-knowledge, staff and colleague awareness of bio-psycho-social issues and functioning; to improve departmental and systems design and functioning; and to meet regulatory requirements.
Requirements:
- Experience in one or more specialty areas such as oncology, geriatrics, degenerative diseases and chronic illnesses.
- Minimum 2 years of supervised counseling and therapy with individuals and families.
- MSW and New Jersey LCSW.
- Must be actively working towards or presently certified in Palliative and End of Life Care by the National Association of Social Workers. Attainment of certification within 2 years.
- Clinical training in a medical/clinical environment.
- Excellent communication, conflict management, organizational and planning skills.
