Overview

The Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC) and our partner organizations have long focused on growing and supporting the palliative care workforce. As our field rebuilds from the pandemic in the context of an increasing number of patients with serious illness, it’s time to take stock of where we are. Do we have enough expertly-trained palliative care clinicians to meet patient needs? How is the palliative care workforce faring, and what is needed to sustain the work? Do our colleagues in other specialties understand what palliative care is, and which patients could benefit from our services? Is the larger U.S. health care workforce adequately trained and supported to provide the highest-quality care for patients with serious illness?

In this webinar, CAPC CEO, Brynn Bowman, MPA, will introduce a framework for evaluating the needs of the workforce caring for patients with serious illness, building on her keynote speech from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s 2023 Roundtable on Quality Care for People with Serious Illness. She will also provide insights on workforce priorities in the coming years, identifying priority actions to ensure that more clinicians train to care for our patient population.
